今日は英語で!
With second term in the swing of things, English classes continue for the children. Every week, I visit each school either in the morning or the afternoon, and teach the fifth- and sixth-graders.
Lessons contain an introduction or review of core vocabulary. We also focus for several weeks on a key grammar point that makes use of the words they’ve learned. We also try to build on and use older grammar points. Second term has begun with the start of Unit 5 for the fifth-graders and Unit 4 for the sixth-graders.
Unit 5 (fifth-graders) centers around colors, basic shapes, the question, “What ~ do you like?”, and its corresponding answer, “I like ~s.” For example:
“What color do you like?”—“I like red.”
“What shape do you like?”—“I like hearts.”
“How many red hears?”—“Three, please.”
(Here, the student draws three red hearts on a T-shirt worksheet)
Unit 4 (sixth-graders) centers around the names of common places found around town and giving directions to them.
“Where is the bookstore?”—“Go straight. Turn right. Go straight. Turn left. Here is the bookstore.”
Every class has several fun activities for the children that help reinforce the words and grammar. Let’s make this a fun second term!
